Note: I only
post this for Early Bronco owners and suggest no one else use the 78-79 F150
axle for narrowing.
How to Narrow a 78-79 D44 - written by Alex Strong.
| First get
the front axle striped and set it on a pair of jack stands ,take a few
measurements from both sides, so that you have something to compare to. |

After you
cut the end off. You will need the measurements to
align it back up. take as many as you think you need its very important
so it comes out straight again. |

Then
grind the weld off from
around the outer edge |

Grind until
you get
this look |

Turn your
grinder so that you can
grind a little into the cast wedge so
that you crack the weld |
 |
Look close
you can see the crack
in the weld this will need to go all
the way around before it will come
off. |

| I used a
big log splitter to knock the cast wedge off .worked like a
charm |

Then
I used
the same splitter to tap tap tap it back on .Now this is
the important part remember were I said to
measure things ,now
get those measurements out and set it back up like it was before
you chopped it down. |

Then weld it ( if you trust your welds go for
it) I had a friend weld mine back up he had a bigger better
welder than my 110v which I don't think would be up to this task
. |
