| "Model 70 Front and Rear axle can be classified by three
groups of pinion offset. The pinion offset is defined as the
distance between the pinion centerline and the differential case
centerline. The following chart describes various models of the axle
and the approximate middle years of production" - Spicer 5312-9
Catalog * Parts for pre 1971 Dana 70's are much hard to find, and cost shows this.

The different closed knuckle fronts
have different
Outer Knuckles depending on the joint, Spicer U-joint or Tracta joing.
Hub lockouts and full time flanges: The old style closed knuckle 70's had lockouts and they used an external style hub. Warn makes 35 spline lockouts for the internal style hub...and the external style 35 spline lockout has long been discontinued.

Dana 70 Rear
Found under light pickup trucks info:
Splines: In my Spicer books all 67+ axle have 35 splines! Unless they are from a Ford F-350 truck with dual rear wheels. "1967-1975 Ford F-350's dual rear wheels & other" have axle shafts 34414-1 or 35368-1 and thus 23 splined 1.5" axle shaft. One note, they sure have a lot of No-Spins in them.
Dana 70 Facts: Axle Type: Full floating, carrier type housing and hypoid gears. Yoke: D70 has a 1350 flange (3-1-4041x) or a 1350 U-joint (3.4.5731x) or a 1410 U-joint (3.4.5711x) yoke for the drive shaft connection. Weight with out brakes 300 lbs. Torque: Max 7,000 Lbs ; Continuous 1,750 Lbs. Nominal GAW Rating 7,500 Lbs Wheel bolt patterns 8 on 6.5"
Dana 70 HD Facts: Axle housing tubes are 4 inch thick.WMS-WMS is between 70 - 50.75" Nominal GAW Rating 10,000 Lbs. Wheel bolt patterns Hub only 5 on 8.0" or Hub and Disk 6 on 8.75"

do the coil spring suspension as the outside tube diameter is about 3.55" Still
